Hi, i don't know if this is the right place to discuss server settings. Sorry if you have to move the topic :)

It seems the server has no timeout for dropping inactive players. And B3 doesn't autokicks AFK's.
So basically i've played the last hour or more (more than half a dozen maps) in 4 VS 4 (or 3) with an AFK in my team.
It imbalances teams (especially when there's not many players, 1/4 players AFK makes a great difference), and can even block spawns (it was very annoying on dressingroom).

Is it possible to consider enabling some simple mechanism (like "Dropped due to inactivity") to prevent this?

on funny, players are automatic send to spec when they are innactive for 90 seconds. on classic u have to send them. this is what i see this morning when i send one player to spec for innactivity.

probably. but u have to consider there are bots too and i don;t know if this option is a good one.

This function is turned off on CLASSIC, since on some stupid original maps it forced bots into spectator (like for example on Algiers in CTF mode).

When all bots are forced into spectator and the server is empty is far more worse than when a single player stays on the map and get killed. This second problem can solve online admins. But not the first one.

I didn't know that, but i understand: sometimes you see bots stuck looking at the sky (like on Austria red). And yes i understand the need to have bots to attract players.

But if for example on Austria blue has 3 active bots, and red has 3 zombie bots staring at the sky (i have seen that situation on another server), that might make the game too unbalanced and un-fun.

I'm not very knowledgeable, but i have an idea, don't know if realistic or silly:
- Enable "innactive drop" after 90 seconds (like on Funny)
- Enable bots to re-join when forced to spec by this script

Sure it's easier for me to talk than actually do it :)
But i think it could solve both problems. What do you guys think?

Partly right: I could use smarter plugins or server settings, but who can develop them for me?

I'm aware of that! I only did the first parts are they are easy: reporting/brainstorming.
As for the rest, of course like i said it's easier for me to talk than actually do it :)

In this area, i am not sure i am able to help. I have some knowledge of python, and i've browsed through B3's source a little while ago. However i don't have a test environment, and i dont' know where to start and if i can handle it.

If you think it's worth it, maybe you can give me some pointers on how to get started being useful in this area, and i'll pick up from there and see what gives.

The weaponcontrol plugin with python wasn't the perfect solution since it forced the players into spectator without a warning message about the reason (maybe meanwhile it got smarter), but it failed more often then the currently used LUA script.
If you are familiar with python you could maybe help us to develop other B3 plugins? We always have open projects :)

I sure would like to try, but it would be first time for me, so a lot to start to learn. If you have any link for tips on starting developping, and maybe on running a test server with B3, i am interested.

What I would do is open an existing an very simple plugin to check and analyze, for example knifer plugin.

In the past i have already downloaded, opened and read some B3 and plugin code (i think it was with the idea of modifying mapcycle information). But i never could test my ideas, since i never had a test environment.
I have an unused little server at home, i think i'll set up a UrT server with B3 on it. It will be a 1st time, and i expect to learn from it, and then be able to test some foolish ideas :)
I never did that, so wish me luck, i might come back for advice ;)

Sooner we had a test server but I closed it to save hardware resources. When I will power on the new hardwer we will have free resources and I will inform you.

It's very nice to propose!! But for now i'll try the challenge to set up UrT+B3 for the first time :) . I want to learn that. I'll just set up debian on my spare box, and try from there.
(i'll search more, but i already found this varrette.gforge.uni.lu/docs.en.html#urt_setup )

Then when it works, i might ask you for your config files (or some of them as long as it's not a security concern).

Only problem is i'll be quite busy in the coming weeks. So that will be more a Submarine Operation... one day it will re-surface, who knows when :)

Yo Marty, thx for the info. Actually the bot plugin is exact the same like on the 4.2 KRH server, so I have no idea why the balancing is so stupid. However we already used to have some NO-BOTS weeks, but nothing has changed in player numbers. BB
