Frozen Sand is pleased to announce that the long awaited beta version 4.2 of Urban Terror is just around the corner with a release date set for August 3, 2012 !

Main changes:

New game type called Last Man Standing.

New and updated maps.

Updated matchmode + fixed a lot of bugs.

Updated hit detection.

Updated player model animations.

Auth system included; Account registration required.

UrTUpdater included; an auto-updater for the game.

auth system? will highly likely drop playernumbers

updater? are they planning on weekly/monthly updates all of the sudden?

with 1 update every couple years seems a bit pointless...

Hi SMG,

1. Auth

Basically (according to FS Raider), your UrT Passprt is your login, account and UrT identity. The UrT AC is the anti-cheat which is the automated software for catching the cheats. Because the AC is linked to the passport system, anyone caught cheating (by the AC), will not be able to play on any Passport Enabled servers

Now the above is for the HD, as with the 4.2 auth system. All I can glean from their news, is that account registration is required, so only registered players will be allowed play on 4.2 servers with auth turned on.

However... it seems that server owners can turn auth off (so that any player can join - no loss in player numbers). OFC players will have to update their game to 4.2.

2. Updater

Basically any bugs, issues can be directly updated without the need to wait for a new release or patch (which is a good thing).

I'll keep you updated as it comes out.

Edit:

The issue here is the UrT community have been waiting for something like this for a long time. It's time to filter out the good guys from the bad guys. Tired of bad games, cheaters, pro players with amazing hits etc etc. The auth should help resolve this (anyone who cares about their UrT status won't cheat).

As for new players - I don't care. New players who want to learn will look for servers that are trusted and run by admins/players with an interest in playing the game properly. Long gone are the days when new players could ask for help ingame (I hope this returns).

I have to tell you all: I am very afraid of this 4.2 release.

Now I have to leave soon and will explain this later, but here are the basic things I have problem with:
- I can't use the special things in my server binary anymore (there is a new release for the game)
- New hit detection: seems for me fully uncompatible with the current B3.

So now what? Can update current servers and just start new ones? And what about the players? If they will dislike Urt4.2, then servers will be empty like UrTHD servers.
Or when players will like 4.2, then the players from 4.1.1 will slowly disappear (like from e.g. 3.7).

I have serious scruples about losing my special things from my compilation: security and features.
And what about the zombie thing? For me the zombie MOD seems to be disabled with 4.2, or?

How about with starting a testballoon,for example on the rarely frequented nader-knifer-server?
There you can test the new specifications of 4.2 in combination with your B3 config.

I think I will make a clean installation for the new server with an empty B3.
I need the nader-knifer to stab and blow-up some a**es :P

I will miss the custom security and feature compilations from babbler and SzaPe :(

OK, we will see. I prepare an empty server for the game and next weekend we can start to set it up. BTW I would welcome a pre-release for server owners like me from FrosenSand. So I could prepare a server for players. Because what would happen now? Players download the game on 3. August, and where to play?

But you posted on the UrT site, so I suppose we will wait and see. I think the idea of setting up a 4.2 on its own and then migrating the other servers one by one. Eitherway, I think a lot of people will be getting ready for the 4.2. Why not add the release date to your b3 welcome messages? (unless you already have :)

Currently I am busy with other things (have exam, and have 3 days training in the country) so I can do all those things later only: next week.
And about 4.2: I have so few information, that I have no idea if a simple upgrade of the servers is possible.

And we have a special rate limit compiled in our binary which is different from the released Rambetter fix and works better.

I don't plan to advertise the 4.2 yet. As you could see it from the answer of Nitro, I can release the game server much after the folks downloaded the game.
Nitro has maybe more information about the new release, but I don't have. Maybe FS should take care more (PR) about the server owners, since without enough servers players have nowhere to play.
